Artist’s Statement:

There is something special about steel – it can be sculpted and sheared, polished and painted, whetted and welded. Even thought the material is malleable, it retains its strength and durability. But besides all that, it’s the texture and appearance of metal that I truly love, as it’s always been an integral part of my life. I grew up on a farm in Iowa, which means I was always working with my hands-fixing fences, repairing buildings, wrenching on machines, digging in the earth, and harvesting crops. Later, I took this practical knowledge into the classroom, where I’ve taught everything from agriculture to industrial arts. Yet, in the end, it’s steel that truly calls to me. We have a history together, and my artistic work in this medium comes from this connection. My inspiration originates from the combination of my appreciation of nature and my love of the industrial form. I enjoy the satisfaction that comes from the flow of a good line and the process of moving from concept to creation. This is where you come in. What is the design of your dreams? Together, we can make it come true.
