My wife, Carina Bissett, approached me about a month ago about a project idea. She has a friend who is about to release a new book (more about that later) and wanted to celebrate her friend’s accomplishment with a piece of art. Carina showed me a picture of the book cover (see below) along with her ideas, and I went to work.
The art is great, one of my favorites so far, and it arrived in Australia a couple of days ago. Carina’s friend was completely surprised and loved it. (I’m crying,” she said!) It’s amazing how a small gesture can have such huge impact. Not only did it make her day, but it also made mine. It feels good to make someone so happy, and this feeling is one of the big reasons I love creating things for others. I’m totally hooked!

My “real” job is teaching, and I preach to my kids all the time how important the little things are. Holding a door, saying thank you, or simply making eye contact and saying “hello” can make someone’s day. Carina wanted to honor her friend and, at the same time, she wanted to send a token of thanks and congratulations. You don’t have to make custom art to send the same message. It can be as easy as sending a quick text, taking time out for lunch or a drink, making a phone call (what?), or putting a note in the mail (gasp, who does that?). Take time to let the people who are important to you know. In the fast-paced world we live in, it’s easy to assume and take for granted – don’t do it! Put some effort into the most important people in your life today.

Now, how about this book? Isn’t the cover awesome! Find out more about Angela Slatter and her work at: https://www.angelaslatter.com. All the Murmuring Bones will be released on March 9, 2021.
